Radio programme - popularization of science, Puti Sinansari

Puti Sinansari, 2nd year student of Doctoral School of University of Szczecin, explained the need of storytelling as communication skill that must be learned by any scientist. Now she took her research in business model in circular economy, her experience both in industry and academic has taught her that normalized science with storytelling is the easiest approach to make people aware of it. It is the art of making the difficult things in science become easier to explain, because it is how science work, to make difficult thing become easier.

Popularization in science refers to public understanding of science and public communication of science things. Many people thinks that science is very complicated and away from everyday life, so the key to popularize science into everyday life is through a good communication. In fact, communication science is a general approach to build modern perspective of general knowledge and common culture. Frequently scientist thought that it is difficult for public to understand specific science issue, on the contrary this problem depends on the communication skill of how this science news will be shared.

Basic skill of communication that scientists need is story telling. This is skill is not only use to communicate their research to public, but also this skill can enhance their communicating skill in the science world. Everybody love to hear an interesting story, some said that no matter how good the story is people will be more interested in how the story teller tell the story. Same thing applied to science, when scientists can develop their skill and make their research more interesting, so that the public who doesn’t know anything about science will be interested in hearing their stories.
